identity search

Recently i was talking to a friend who opened up an idea to me, that I had only contemplated simply. Since then I have been asking my pastors for their point of view to help me in my search. Follow me...

Identity. Personal identity; hard to define, at the best of times, I find. I see it as I have one perspective of who I am, how I come across to others, and who I want to be. The people you meet me, each, have another, most likely. Due to this discrepancy I find it difficult to set down definitions to define me, Jody C Larsen.

What came up in a conversation recently was that we, as Christians, should be striving to define ourselves through Christ's lens, not ours, but how can that be done, as He definitely has his own perspective on who I am; who you are. So how do we define our identity through God? That has got to be harder than through what other people, or oneself, have to say; it should be easier to get into those heads than Gods. Shouldn't it?

I contemplated it. I prayed about it. I asked about it. this is what I come up with as the best way to define oneself through Christ...

It is about why you do what you do. What are you thinking about before your actions are taken? What is the true purpose for your dreams? do they align with God, or you?Is it your goal to act and think according to God's perspective on life, or the way the world chooses to react to life events and opportunities. When your goal is to align your everyday thoughts, actions, and goals with His your identity becomes "Christ-like". Please note that this is NOT something that happens in a day, a month, or even a year. It takes time, patience, and practice to get to the point where you have trained your subconscious mind to work through Christ's lens rather than your own.

The answer to my search? It is this... One's identity is defined by the reasonings for the choices made. If one chooses to filter, as much as is humanly possible for that person, their thoughts and actions through God's lens his or her identity is "Christ-like". If, on the other hand the same person uses the lens of the world (media, magazines, other people, ect) his or her identity would be "worldly".

I am not sure about what your personal dreams and goals are, but mine are to be identified through Christ. Now that I have identified how this can be attained I need to start training my mind so my natural behaviours become supernatural responses!
